Fostering a Culture of Giving at Work In 3 Simple Steps

February 15, 2021

In our current business climate, more teams now are working remote than ever before. With a distributed workforce, it has become even more important to find ways to create a culture that helps attract and retain employees, keeping them engaged and happy in their work. How can you do that as a leader? One way is to create an environment where your team is giving back to a cause or mission. This can help spark purpose, making work more meaningful and having a positive impact on employee’s overall satisfaction with the organization.

You can start small with establishing a culture of giving. Here’s a few ideas to try with your team, whether you work in the office or remotely.

1. Find a way to give back to your community.

Whether it’s volunteering at the local food pantry or holding a clothing drive at work, there’s plenty of ways to get team members involved in doing something for the greater good. If you’re not able to resume in-person volunteering, there are plenty of digital options online, such as tutoring a student or pitching in to help a nonprofit with your skills.

2. Hold a fundraiser or find ways to donate to charities digitally.

You can hold a company-wide fundraiser to raise money for a certain cause. Or, better yet, find a charitable giving app to allow employees to make donations on behalf of the company. This allows them to have choice and autonomy over their donations, feeling even more involved in the giving process. For example,  The Grateful App allows employees to make donations right from their phone, using Grateful Cards™. It doesn’t get easier than that.

3. Pitch in to help team members and find appreciation for each other.

If a team member is out sick, send a get well card. Throw a mini celebration on their birthday. Give an award to high-performing members. Giving back to your own employees and showing them they’re appreciated goes a long way in increasing employee morale. Also, it’ll encourage your team to spread kindness to others, inside the organization and out.

These are just a few simple ways to foster a culture of giving with your team. Do you have ideas of your own? We’d love to hear them! Join us on Twitter
